ICU Journey

Becoming Your Child’s Soft-Spoken, Strong Advocate

When your child is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), it can feel as though the world keeps spinning while your life stands still. Even surrounded by family and friends, you may feel deeply alone—overwhelmed by the weight of medical decisions, sleepless nights, and the desperate hope for a miracle.

You sit in the waiting room, watching others scroll through phones, laugh, and talk, yet inside you are gripped by nervousness, stress, and a constant undercurrent of fear. The responsibility to choose what’s best for your child rests heavily on your shoulders. It’s an emotional, physical, and spiritual battle that no parent is ever truly prepared for.

That’s where I come in.

At PDM Journey Coaching, I support you through this crucial time by helping you:

  • Build the confidence to advocate for your child’s needs.

  • Find your voice in the midst of medical uncertainty.

  • Stay emotionally present for yourself and your child.

  • Make decisions that reflect both your values and your love.

Together, we’ll explore what it means to be your child’s soft-spoken, strong advocate—someone who can communicate calmly, think clearly under pressure, and act with confidence, even in the most difficult moments.

Why I Understand Your Journey

I’ve been where you are.

I spent endless days and nights in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as my daughter, Alicia, battled complications from Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS). I slept in chairs, folded into hospital carts, and existed in a fog of exhaustion, anxiety, and heartbreak. The alarms, the beeping machines, the uncertainty—it was terrifying. And Alicia had never been sick before.

For weeks and months, the PICU Parent Waiting Room became my second home. I was forced to quickly adapt to a new reality I never saw coming. It was through my faith, mindset, and unwavering love for Alicia that I found the strength to advocate for her—not with aggression, but with quiet confidence, trust, and determination. I became her soft-spoken, strong advocate, and I carry no regrets about the way I showed up for her.
