A Pathway From Grief, Inc.
A Pathway From Grief, a not-for-profit organization and subsidiary of PDM Coaching Services, Inc., provides African American mothers of young children in underserved and underprivileged communities with grief support, parenting skills, and techniques. We focus on eliminating the emotional distress of grief and the challenges of limited parenting skills that can cause emotional, mental, and physical abuse and premature deaths in Black children.
Our ideal mothers have lost a child and are trying to continue their day-to-day responsibilities. They are trying to sustain affordable living with limited resources and support. Their parenting skills are inadequate and may include caring for their other children in the household who are also experiencing grief from the loss of their sibling.
The unfortunate distress of grief and their limited skills often trigger anger, depression, anxiety, sleepless nights, shock, and disbelief as they struggle with living in their never-ending cycle of grief. Ignoring grief can lead to their failing health, mentally and physically, justifying the usage of illegal substances, alcoholism, and abusing prescribed medications. The feelings of grief, hopelessness, and despair, coupled with limited parenting skills, place their other children directly in harm’s way. Without mothers overcoming their grief and enhancing their parenting style, young children are at risk of becoming a statistic of neglect, emotional and physical abuse, and, sometimes, premature deaths.
A Pathway From Grief support mothers in small group sessions in a collaborative, safe, and trusting atmosphere. These grieving mothers are encouraged to express their emotions and explore new ways to cope with and overcome their grief while connecting with their inner spirits and learning to find calmness in their current state of being. With education, self-compassion, and understanding, they will increase their confidence and begin developing and restoring personal and family core values. Their new awareness and strength will reduce child abuse and premature death in children in Black households.
A mother’s renewed inspiration will create pathways from their grief that will contribute to them living fulfilled lives as they embrace new hopes, visions, and dreams of living a purposeful life.
